Our Initiatives

Construction

Michigan, and especially Detroit, is a hotbed for construction projects. Every month, new condominiums, stadiums, shops, and restaurants are going up. We want to make sure that our Center clients are a part of that action. Whether it is helping with bids, making connections to the right people, or simply taking clients through the bonding process, we are here to help.

Michigan in Mexico

As manufacturers and large companies move their production operations into Mexico, we want to make sure that our minority businesses are equipped to do business down there as well. The Center is providing its clients information and consulting in relation to tapping into the Mexican market, finding opportunities out there, and entering the exporting process. Through this Initiative, the Center has developed an extensive network of contacts with key state officials, automotive and aerospace clusters, and manufacturing representatives. Additionally, on our staff is Javier Smith who is well-experienced with the business culture and opportunities in Mexico.

Young Technology

Innovation is all around and technology is always changing. The minority-owned businesses that we work with have a piece of that technology pie and we want to help them along the way. Whether the involvement is with phone applications, computer software, automotive innovation, or otherwise, we want to make sure that those minority-owned businesses get the support that they need.

Access to Capital

One thing that all businesses need—especially when they are starting—is capital. We want to help minority owned businesses tap into all of the capital that is out there. Therefore, the Center is currently building up its Access to Capital program, which will include a variety of resources, including lending, peer-to-peer platforms, private equity, and venture capital. The Center is working on creating an online tool that will pair minority-owned businesses to the appropriate capital partner. Please make sure to stay in touch with Center for updates on this program.
